Ensure a Strong Internet Connection:

  • A stable internet connection with at least 15mbps upload and download speed will ensure you don't lose connection, and reduce the chances you'll have glitches in your recording.

  • Complete a speed test here.

To maximize your bandwidth during a remote recording, follow these steps:

  1. Use a hardwired Ethernet connection

    1. If you don't have access to hardwire, make sure you're connected to your highest-speed Wi-Fi network.

  2. Disconnect from virtual private network.

  3. Disable streaming services (Netflix, Zoom, etc.).

  4. Close and quit communication platforms (email, Teams, etc.)

  5. Close and quit other high-bandwidth programs using Task Manager.

  6. Make sure you aren't downloading or uploading data / files.

  7. Close all browser tabs except the one you need for your recording.

Choose a High-Quality Webcam:

  • Invest in a webcam with 1080p (HD) resolution.

Choose a High-Quality Microphone:

  • Clear audio is essential, so invest in a good microphone - usually, the one that's already in your computer / webcam is not great for recordings.

    • Our recommended budget-friendly option: Blue Yeti Microphone.

    • For more advanced setups, consider microphones with audio interfaces.

Adhere to These Guidelines:

  • Record in a quiet place - opt for a small, carpeted room with the door shut.

  • Have headphones ready and plugged in - it'll improve your experience and your fellow participants' experience by reducing echo and splashback.

  • Maintain a clean and professional background - think neat and tidy, but don't overthink it.
