How to Use Course Builder for Online Learning

A step-by-step guide to building online learning courses in MarketScale, from setting up lessons to requesting content from contributors and publishing to your channel.

Course Builder is an excellent educational resource inside MarketScale. Keep reading to see how it works.

Online learning drives educational outcomes for community members inside and outside your organization. Engage both with compelling course content created in MarketScale.

1. From your dashboard, click the orange academic cap icon to the right of center.

2. You'll land on the Course Builder page. You'll see the Builder itself, plus a My Courses section where you can access in-progress and completed courses.

3. To build a new course, enter a title and description. Your description should cover the basics of what learners will gain.

You can also set privacy filters, controlling who sees your course before, during, and after completion. We recommend keeping the default setting (Organization). When you're ready, click Next.

4. After submitting your title and description, you're ready to build. You'll find three pre-built lessons: Intro, Lesson 1, and Conclusion.

Each lesson features two sections and multiple customization options. You have three ways to build course content:

  • Red camera icon: record a video yourself.

  • Blue upload icon: upload existing media for the lesson.

  • Green plus icon: request content from a collaborator or subject-matter expert.

5. Click the pencil icon to rename a lesson. Add more lessons with the plus icon, or remove one with the minus icon. The Additional Notes field is for instructions to whoever is recording the lesson, attach supporting materials with the paper clip icon, or add bulleted lists with the "A" icon.

6. Click the green Plus icon to request content from experts or collaborators.

Type the name of the person you're requesting from. If they're already a MarketScale user, their profile auto-fills. We recommend course contributors have an account for the best experience.

Next, select a due date for when you'd like them to complete their content. Add any instructions in the notes field. The requestee clicks Respond, where they'll be prompted to record or upload. For screen captures, they can click Record and select Screen Capture as the camera option. When they're done, they click Submit, and you'll be notified.

7. Click the blue Upload icon to upload your own content.

Drag and drop, or click Add files to upload videos or photos. Include any editing notes in the additional notes section, then click Save.

8. To record course content yourself, click the red camera icon. From there, follow the standard MarketScale recording flow.

Record your video, or switch to screen capture to record your screen. Leave any editing notes in the additional notes section, then click Save.

9. You're done with course content. Within each additional notes section, add any specific editing or other notes for the MarketScale editors. Under each video, you can download the media, add specific editing requests through the proofing tool, and attach related materials.

After all lessons are complete, choose Submit course, Delete course, or Save draft. Once submitted, your course heads to MarketScale for editing and comes back ready to publish on your channel or LMS.
