Getting Started with AI Visibility

Get started with AI Visibility in minutes. Learn to access your GEO dashboard, track mentions and citations, define competitors, audit prompts, and use Content Recommendations to launch your strategy.

Updated yesterday

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the new standard for content visibility. You need to know if your brand is being Mentioned (recommended in text) or Cited (used as a source link) by AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.

AI Visibility is your radar and GPS for this new landscape. Follow this workflow to audit your brand and launch your first GEO strategy in minutes.

Quick Start: Your 2-Minute Audit

Click any step below to jump to the details.

  1. Access the Dashboard (Scale, Business & Enterprise Only)

  2. Check Your Radar (Overview Tab)

  3. Define Your Competitors

  4. Audit & Add Prompts

  5. Review Content Recommendations

AI Visibility is a premium intelligence feature. Access is limited to customers on Scale plans and higher, and to users with Standard permissions or higher.

Access the Dashboard

If you are on a Scale, Business, or Enterprise plan, AI Visibility is already live in your account. If you are on a Basic plan, contact your Customer Success Rep (your UGC Coach, Engagement Manager, or Director assigned to your account).

  • Log in to MarketScale.

  • On your Home Feed, locate and click the AI Visibility (GEO) button.

Check Your Radar

The Overview tab acts as your radar. It provides an immediate snapshot of where you stand in the AI ecosystem right now.

  • Mentions: See how often your brand appears in AI text responses over the last 7 days.

  • Share of Voice: Compare your visibility directly against the competitors tracked in your project.

  • Citations: Identify if you are being cited as a source link, and which domains (e.g., YouTube, Reddit, or your own Website) are driving those citations.

Define Your Competitors

The tool pre-populates 5-10 competitors, but you should fine-tune this list to ensure accurate benchmarking.

  • Navigate to the Competitors settings.

  • Review the existing list. Remove irrelevant companies.

  • Add missing competitors that you specifically want to beat in AI rankings.

Audit & Add Prompts

Prompts are the specific questions AI Visibility asks LLMs to test your brand's presence. The system monitors these weekly.

  • Review Existing Prompts: Check the prompts already staffed in the platform.

  • Add Your Own: Add questions your sales team gets asked constantly, or questions where you want to be the authority.

  • Use Tools: You can use the "People Also Asked" integration to find questions derived from Google search data.

Review Content Recommendations

This is the "GPS" of the platform. It analyzes your data (mentions, citations, and gaps) and tells you exactly what to create to improve.

  • Click Content Recommendations on the left-hand menu.

  • Treat this like a "Quest Board".

  • Filter by High Priority to see the most urgent content gaps.

  • Example Recommendation: The tool might suggest creating a "How-To" video to win a specific query where competitors are currently winning.

Launch a Content Task

Don't just read the data. Act on it.

  • Select a high-priority recommendation.

  • Request: Navigate to Request and send a request directly to your subject matter experts (engineers, product leads, sales team) to record the necessary content.

  • Use MarketScale Tools: Use the platform to convert that raw expertise into videos, social posts, articles, and more.

What to Expect Next (Consistency is Key)

Launching your first task is just the beginning. While GEO can offer more immediacy than traditional SEO, it is not an overnight switch.

  • Build a Habit: AI models refresh their databases constantly. The more consistently you add fresh, authoritative content to the pool, the higher your likelihood of being cited.

  • Don't "Post and Ghost": A single video won't secure your spot forever. You need a regular cadence of expert insights to maintain your authority.

Common Questions

  • Is GEO faster than SEO? Likely yes. You will often see more immediacy from a GEO strategy compared to the "long game" of traditional SEO. However, consistency is nonnegotiable to maintain your position as an authority.

  • Does this replace tools like "Answer The Public"? It can. AI Visibility identifies the questions your buyers are asking and integrates that data directly into your content production workflow. We recommend comparing the insights you get here against your legacy tools.

  • Does my website's technical setup (e.g., llms.txt) matter? Yes. Your website is a primary source of authority. Technical elements that help LLMs crawl and understand your site will impact how often you are cited as a source. But external signals have an outsized positive impact compared to technical components of your website. Focus on building your mentions, and converting them to citations.
