Overview
Getting a new video project started on MarketScale is a straightforward process. This article walks you through uploading your content, setting up your project, and submitting all the details your editor needs to bring your vision to life.
Step-by-Step
1. Upload your content
Navigate to the upload button at the top of the page next to the record and request buttons. It will take you to a page with a form. Give your video a title, upload your raw footage, then assign it to a folder to keep things organized. You can use a personal folder or create project-based folders — if a folder already exists, click it or use the search bar that pops up; if not, type a new name and hit Enter to create one.
2. Select an approver
You'll be automatically selected as the approver by default. For most projects this is fine — simply confirm and hit Start Upload.
3. Approve your upload
Once the upload finishes, you can approve it immediately if you're the approver. Hit Approve and your content will appear in the feed.
4. Submit your edit request
When you're ready to request an edit, click the Media Studio button in the bottom corner and click Request Edit Now. This opens a form where you'll provide your editor with everything they need.
5. Fill out the edit request form
Work through the form fields:
Brand books — required. If your video is internal and doesn't need branding, still select a brand book and note this in your instructions to the editor.
Video type — select the category that fits (e.g. culture, thought leadership, testimonial).
Orientation — select the either Landscape or Portrait depending on what fits your needs
Publishing Destination — select the category that fits where you will post your content
Craft your Clip (Edit instructions) — this is the most important part. Describe your vision clearly: the intro style, music feel, transitions, voiceover needs, and any specific content to include. There's a 100-character minimum to ensure editors have enough to work with.
Vibe Check — pick the vibe of your video
Video Length — choose a preset or select "Custom" if you have specific timing needs.
Reference video (Examples) — link a past video or YouTube example if there's a style you're going for.
Additional Notes and Files — provide any additional notes and upload any key assets
6. Submit
Hit Let's Create — your project will move into editing.
Adding Per-Photo or Per-Clip Instructions
If your video includes multiple photos or clips, they'll appear as thumbnails across the top of the upload. You can click each one individually and leave a comment with specific instructions — like a name, caption, or editing note — so your editor knows exactly what to do with each piece of content.
Best Practices
Be as descriptive as possible in your edit instructions. The more context you give (mood, style, what to highlight), the closer the first draft will be to your vision.
Use a reference video whenever you can. A YouTube link or past MarketScale video goes a long way in communicating style.
Use per-asset comments for content with multiple pieces. If names, captions, or order matter, add a comment to each thumbnail or at a timestamp.
Don't pad your instructions just to hit the character minimum. If your video is genuinely simple, a brief but clear note is better than filler text.
FAQs
Do I have to select a brand book even for internal videos?
Yes — a brand book is required to submit the form. If branding isn't needed, select the closest option and let your editor know in the instructions.
What if I don't have a reference video?
That's fine — it's optional. Just be thorough in your written instructions to compensate.
Can I leave different instructions for each photo or clip?
Yes. Click a thumbnail or go to a specific timestamp in your video individually after uploading and leave a comment specific to that asset.
What happens after I hit "Let's Create"?
Your project enters the editing queue. You'll be notified when a draft is ready for your review.
