Groups: How to Organize Your Teams and Filter the Home Feed with Groups

Groups in MarketScale Studio help you filter content, organize projects, and streamline collaboration with public or private hubs for your team.

Updated today

Your Studio feed can get crowded quickly—your own uploads, your colleagues’ clips, plus community content all stack up on the homepage. Groups cut through that noise. They let you bucket content into focused spaces where you can work by project, team, or initiative without distraction.

Think of it this way:

  • Folders = hashtags. One video can live in many folders.

  • Groups = hubs. One video can only live in one group at a time.

That makes Groups the go-to tool for intentional project management and streamlined collaboration.

How to Create Groups

To create Groups, open your profile in the top right corner and click Groups, which is located above Admin Actions.

From there, you can create a new Group using the Create new + button in the top right corner.

NOTE: If your Channel has existing Groups, you can join them from this page (or request to join them, if their settings are private).

To create a new Group:

  • Upload a photo and choose a background color

  • Name the group

  • Describe the group

  • Add members

You also have the option to choose whether this will be a Private Group.

If you choose to make it a private group, the content created within it will be available only to members of that group. It will not be visible to everyone in your Channel.

However, Admins will be able to view the content even if they are not members of the group, since their permissions override all private group settings.

Finish creating your Group by clicking Create Group in the bottom right. You will now see your Group as an available option in the Groups menu!

How to Join Groups

Not every Group in your Channel will be open by default. Here’s how joining works:

  • Public Groups: These are open to everyone in the Channel. They don't have a padlock. Just click Join Group and you’re in. You can also leave at any time.

  • Private Groups: These are locked. You’ll see a padlock icon on them. To join, click Join Group. This time, you'll get a notification letting you know you've requested to join. An admin or current Group member will need to approve your request before you gain access. While waiting, your request will show as Pending (with the option to "Cancel request" if you change your mind).

  • Your Groups List: Once accepted, the Group will appear under My Groups in your profile menu and in the Groups sidebar, giving you quick access to filter your feed.

NOTE: Joining a private Group is what allows you to see its content. If you’re not a member, you won’t even see uploads from a private Group in your regular feed.

How to Add Content to a Group

You can place content in a Group at upload or retroactively:

  • During Upload/Record/Request: When using the Record, Upload, Conversations, or Request tools, look for the Privacy drop-down.

    • Under Privacy, you'll see: “Everyone in my Channel,” “Only me and admins,” and the relevant one here, “My Groups.”

    • Select your Group before publishing, and the clip is automatically bucketed.

  • After Upload (Retroactively):

    • On the video card, click the three-dot menu.

    • Select Edit Settings.

    • Under Privacy, reassign the video to a Group.

    • Save, and the video moves immediately.

NOTE: To move content between Groups, repeat the Edit Settings process. The clip will disappear from the first Group and show up in the new one.

How to Filter Your Feed With Groups

  • Log in to MarketScale Studio and go to your dashboard (home feed).

  • Click your profile in the top right corner to open the side panel.

  • In the panel, you’ll see your profile details, your Channel (e.g., MarketScale), and below that, a section labeled “Viewing media as a member of.”

  • Here, click Choose Group.

NOTE: If you don’t see the Choose Group option, that means there are currently no Groups in your Channel, OR that you aren't in any Groups!

Once you click on the Choose Group icon, you'll be able to select the Group you'd like to view in your feed.

You will now see a filtered view of your feed that shows only the media that are set to be in this Group.

In the Groups view, you can easily switch between different Groups using the left-hand sidebar.

NOTE: Once inside a Group view, you’ll see all the Groups you’re part of (and suggested ones to join) in the left sidebar. You can flip between Groups without returning to the unfiltered homepage.

To go back to the full feed, just click the Homepage button (your Channel logo in the top-left).

Quick Rules to Remember

  • Public Group content = still visible on the unfiltered homepage.

  • Private Group content = only visible to Group members.

  • Admins always have visibility, no matter what.

  • VIP Guest Pass users only ever see their own uploads—Groups just help them stay organized.

Final Takeaway

Groups are more than a filter—they’re your project HQ inside Studio. By using Groups, you keep content organized, collaboration focused, and workflows smoother. If you’re always creating around the same initiative, log straight into your Group view and build there. Everything you publish flows neatly into the right place, no extra steps needed.
