Updated over 3 weeks ago

Did you just receive a MarketScale media request from someone in your community? Responding to a media request is one of the first (and easiest) ways to create UGC in MarketScale Studio. Don’t overthink it—this is about capturing your voice, not producing a Hollywood film.

A media request is exactly what it sounds like: someone in your community is asking you for content. By responding, you’re sharing your perspective, your expertise, and your story—and it only takes a few minutes to complete. For most new users, this is your very first step into MarketScale Studio and into creating UGC.

1. Receiving the Request

There are three ways you might receive a media request:

  • In Platform: If you're logged in to MarketScale, you'll see a card in feed with the request details and the option to respond.

  • Via Email: When you receive a media request via email, you'll see the request details in the body of the email and a button to open the request. This will take you to a page where you can view the request details and choose how to respond.

  • Via Open Link: If you receive a media request via an open link, that means someone sent you a direct link (a URL), or you opened the link downstream from a LinkedIn post, Slack message, QR code, etc. Simply click the link to view the request details, and it'll take you right to the MarketScale.

2. Enter Your Info (First-Timers Only)

If this is your very first time, you’ll see a quick screen asking for your email, your first and last name, and your agreement to MarketScale’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Fill that out and you’re ready to go. If you already have an account, you’ll skip this step and jump right into responding.

3. Viewing Request Details

Once logged in, you'll see your curated media request! It will include the request creator, prompts, and options to choose your preferred method to respond.

  • Record Directly in Studio (desktop only): Open your webcam, see the prompt in a built-in teleprompter, and hit record. Review your video before submitting.

  • Upload a Video (desktop or mobile): Record using your phone’s camera app (best quality) or any camera, then upload the file from your library.

NOTE: The record option is available on desktop only and not on mobile devices. MarketScale is a browser-based platform that requires a high-speed internet connection for optimal recording quality. If you're on the go, it's best to use your phone's camera app to record your video and then upload it.

4. Responding to the Request

Once you’re happy with your recording or upload, hit Submit.

You’ll see a quick confirmation message on the Submit button that says "Submitted", and then you’re done—the content is automatically delivered to the inbox of the person who requested it.

5. Know Where Your Content Goes

After you submit, your video doesn’t disappear into the void. It goes directly to the requestor, who will decide how to use and share it. You don’t need to do anything else unless they send a follow-up request, or decline your submission.

If your submission gets declined, you'll get an email with feedback on why, and you'll likely here from the requester to try again!

Quick Troubleshooting FAQs

  • “It says I already have an account.” Use the magic link to respond without logging in.

  • “Can I respond from mobile?” Yes—just record with your phone’s camera app and upload.

  • “Upload not working?” Check that your file is a supported format. Find the list here.

Final Takeaway

Responding to a media request is your first step toward becoming a true UGC creator. Each time you respond, you’re adding your voice to your company’s story. It’s quick, simple, and a powerful way to start building content momentum.
