MarketScale's Record tool lets you capture webcam, external camera, or screen recordings right from your desk, no separate software required. Here's a quick overview of the basics and how to record yourself directly into your MarketScale Channel.
Access the Record Tool
To use Record, first log in to MarketScale. Then click Record in the toolbar:
The platform will automatically open a recording module after a brief loading screen.
NOTE: If you're using Record for the first time, make sure your browser is configured to allow use of your camera and microphone. MarketScale is designed to work in any browser, but Google Chrome works best. Here's how to adjust your site settings permissions in Chrome. Chrome will typically pop up a notification in the top left of your browser window if it needs your permission.
Setup & Usage Context
If you're filming on a mobile phone, skip the Record tool, record directly into your phone's camera app, then upload the file to MarketScale.
Before you hit record, make sure your webcam is plugged in, uncovered, and ready to film. The Record tool also works with external cameras like a DSLR connected to your computer.
The Command Menu
The command menu for the Record tool is at the bottom center of the module.
From left to right, it contains:
Microphone selector
Camera selector
Start recording
Virtual background selector
Screen selector
Using the command menu, select the microphone and camera you want to use to record your media.
If you're recording your screen instead of your camera, use the screen selector to indicate which window or screen you want to record.
Screen Share
The Screen Share button lets you record your entire screen, a single window, or a browser tab while still capturing your selected microphone audio.
You can choose from pre-selected backgrounds. If you're an Admin, you can add custom virtual backgrounds in your Channel Settings.
Teleprompter Functions
The built-in teleprompter can be resized, moved anywhere on your screen, paused, scrolled up or down, set to different speeds, or expanded to full screen.
Using the teleprompter keeps your eye line toward the camera instead of glancing at another monitor for notes.
Starting Your Recording
Now that you've selected your video and audio sources, click Start recording.
After a brief countdown, your recording will start. You can track the length of your recording using the timer on the bottom left of the module.
NOTE: You cannot pause and resume a single recording, record it in one long take. This is a best practice for video production. Don't worry about getting it perfect; while leaving the recording running, you can re-start and stop as much as you need to. Focus on saying everything you want to say, the way you want to say it. With editing on MarketScale you'll be able to direct us to cut out the parts you don't like.
Submitting Your Recording
Once you finish, click Stop recording to proceed to review. The platform will give you the opportunity to watch the recording before submitting.
Click Submit to complete your recording and upload it to MarketScale for review.
NOTE: If you prefer, you can delete your video and start again by clicking the X to the left of Submit. If you choose to delete the recording, you cannot recover it. Remember, you can always cut out the bad parts, so it's probably best to keep your recording unless there's a very compelling reason to delete it.
Record Confirmations
To confirm and save your recording, complete the quick form that pops up:
Name your recording.
Add a folder.
Select who should approve your recording, when in doubt, choose yourself.
Click Submit video at the bottom right of the modal.
Tips after you submit
After submission, you can go directly to your media to approve or decline it immediately, no need to wait for the default workflow.
If you're recording for yourself, leave the default approver as "Me" so you can green-light your own content in the next step.
You can also set privacy options for your recording before final submission.
Once approved, you can link your video to others, download it, edit it in Media Studio, or group it into a larger project using folder view.
