VIP Guest, Member, and Admin: Understanding Your Channel’s User Roles and Access Levels

MarketScale has three simple roles: VIP Guest, Standard, and Admin. Use this guide to assign the right permissions so your team can scale.

Updated today

With MarketScale you don't need to worry about who sees what. You want to scale your content without giving every contributor the keys to the castle. MarketScale uses three clear tiers to balance speed with security. Whether you are inviting a client to record a testimonial or a VP to approve a budget, here is how to pick the right lane for them.

VIP Guest (External)

Perfect for: Customers, channel partners, one-off contributors, vendors... anyone in your community who is not a teammate.

Think of this as a Walled Garden. VIP Guests can create content, but they can't see what anyone else is doing unless you give them access manually.

  • What they can do: Record, upload, request edits, send surveys - create content.

  • What they see: Only their own content, unless you explicitly share other content with them. They cannot see the content in your feed, other users, or brand settings.

  • Why use it: Safely invite thousands of contributors. They get to work instantly without peeking behind the curtain.

Pro tip: VIP Guests have unlimited access to create content. So, the sky is the limit. Invite your dealers, distributors, customers and more so they can create content for you and for their own businesses.

Standard (Internal Team)

Perfect for: Colleagues and daily users.

This is the standard "teammate" role. Members are here to collaborate, not just contribute.

  • What they can do: Everything a VIP Guest can do, plus invite other Standard users.

  • What they see: The full channel feed. They can view all approved media and see what the team is working on.

  • Why use it: Give your team visibility so they can collaborate without needing backend Admin privileges.

Admin (The Owner)

Perfect for: Department heads and program managers.

Admins hold the keys. They ensure the machine runs smoothly and stays on brand.

  • What they can do: Full control. Invite users, change roles, edit Brand Books, configure AI prompts, and manage channel settings.

  • The Superpower: Admins can approve or reject any media in the inbox, overriding other settings to unblock a bottleneck.

  • Why use it: You need someone to manage the flow, governance, and strategy of the channel.

Pro tip: Most channels need only one Admin. Keep these to a minimum.

How to Change a User's Role

Promoting a teammate or locking down a guest account takes seconds. Only Admins can do this.

  1. Click your Profile Picture (top right).

  2. Select Users under "Admin Actions."

  3. Find the person and click the Pencil Icon under their permissions.

  4. Select the new role or remove them entirely.

The Cheat Sheet (TL;DR)

When in doubt, keep it simple.

  • VIP Guest = Create in private. (Safe for strangers).

  • Member = Create + collaborate. (Safe for employees).

  • Admin = Create + manage. (For the boss).
