VIP Guest, Member, and Admin: Understanding Your Channel’s User Roles and Access Levels

VIP Guest, Standard Member, and Admin. Which platform roles are right for each of your community members?

Updated this week

MarketScale Studio supports three primary access levels for your team: VIP Guest, Member, and Admin. Each role is designed to balance creative freedom with administrative control—making it easier to scale user-generated content (UGC) without sacrificing data privacy, content quality, or strategic visibility.

🔒 VIP Guest

Perfect for: External collaborators and content contributors who need to record or upload without seeing the rest of your channel's activity.

Access & Capabilities:

  • Can create content using tools like Record, Upload, Request, and Conversations.

  • Can submit media for editing.

  • Can approve their own content if desired.

Visibility:

  • Operates in a walled garden—they only see their own media or any media they've been directly invited to collaborate on.

  • No access to other users’ content, internal workflows, or branding libraries.

  • Cannot invite users or access team-level settings.

Extra Engagement Tip:

  • Members and Admins can @tag VIP Guests in comment threads to loop them into feedback or collaborate on a specific clip.

Why Use This Role:

Safely invite hundreds (even thousands) of contributors without “too many cooks in the kitchen.” They get to create—without peeking behind the curtain.

👥 Member (Standard User)

Perfect for: Internal team members who need to collaborate, create, and manage content within the channel.

Access & Capabilities:

  • Everything a VIP Guest can do, plus:

    • View all approved media in their channel.

    • Invite new users into the platform.

Visibility:

  • Sees all content created in the channel—even content from Guest users.

  • Ideal for teammates who need shared visibility without backend admin privileges.

Why Use This Role:

It's your go-to role for everyday internal users—collaborative, capable, but not responsible for backend governance.

🛠️ Admin

Perfect for: Department leads, program managers, or content operations leaders who manage content flow, user access, and brand standards.

Access & Capabilities:

  • Full visibility and control over the platform.

  • Can invite or create other Admins.

  • Everything Members can do, plus:

    • Approve, reject, or manage media from the inbox—regardless of the set Approver.

    • Edit Brand Books, Saved Orders, and Channel Settings.

    • Manage user permissions and edit user profiles on the backend.

    • Access to AI Prompt configurations, email domain restrictions, channel-wide assets, and more.

Responsibilities:

Admins are your internal platform owners. They ensure your Studio space is branded, organized, and aligned to your content goals. They keep the content machine running smoothly and securely.

⚙️ MS Admin (MarketScale Only)

This special role is reserved for MarketScale team members supporting your account. MS Admins have elevated privileges to manage queue workflows, editing timelines, reviews, and behind-the-scenes systems.

How to Adjust User Roles

Remember, only Admins can change a user’s role in Studio. Adjusting roles ensures each person has the right level of access for their responsibilities—whether that means giving more visibility and tools to someone taking on bigger tasks, or limiting access to maintain security and focus.

To update someone’s role, start by navigating to the Users page:

  1. Click your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen.

  2. Under the Admin Actions section, select Users.

On the Users page, you’ll see a list of everyone in your channel along with their current role. From here, you can search for a specific person, click the pencil icon next to their name, and choose a new role from the available options.

Here, you can also remove a user from the channel or delete their account entirely.

Final Takeaway

All users can create. But only the right roles should manage.

By aligning access levels to real responsibilities, you protect your brand, streamline collaboration, and scale content creation with clarity.

When in doubt, keep it simple:

  • Guest = Create in private

  • Member = Create + collaborate

  • Admin = Create + manage + govern
